The Hopeful and The Hopeless.

The Hopeful and The Hopeless.

A Poem by Chris
"

Two friends are given a task. One always stood up for the other, he was the fist at the end of the others arm. Towards the end, the arm went numb. The hand, however, kept fighting.

"

Welcome to the end,

so few have survived past this point.

I have lost faith in us friend...

Why were the ones they chose to anoint?

I suppose the heavens will tell us soon enough...

I just wish we had more time...

Why couldn't they choose someone tough?

Send one who committed a crime?

If we sit here any longer,

your questions will go unanswered.

They chose us for there is no pair stronger.

Criminals dare not face the darkness we've stirred.

Try to understand that I will never give in

and keep in mind that on my life I swore,

I won't let you die for we are like kin.

So please lift yourself from the floor.

Friend you try to hard,

You must know that it's inevitable?

Death shall be our only reward,

your efforts were commendable.

I shall never accept that as your fate

and neither shall you.

By the end it is me you will hate.

My life I would give for few.

Now consider yourself the sole survivor.

You have a family who wants you back

and I only have a bar stool to cover.

If you die, then a reason for life I'll lack.

My friend, surely you lie...

How could this be true?

For me you would just die?

I had no clue...

It matters not,

Now please just run for me,

I shall be the only one to rot

and my death is not a sight I wish you to see.

I shall not forget what you have done.

Thank you for everything.

Your name shall be given to my son

and your story all the bards will sing.

Goodbye my friend,

for I have welcomed the end.
