Flirting With Death

Flirting With Death

A Poem by alittledistraction
"

I flirt with Death when I'm bored.

"

I flirt with death when I’m bored

He stalks my room and warms my core.

I’ve enjoyed our dance thus far,

He has always understood my heart’s scars

He is graceful and brutal and unforgiving

Yet he is all that I’ve craved for most of my days.

He offers me a release,

Yet I have chosen to work towards peace.

Although to lay down would be nice,

I assure Death that I will embrace him only when the time is right.

But I flirt with death when I’m bored,

His presence never seems to be forced.

He comes when I desire, although I never admit

And leaves when I’m better, with a silent promise to return quick

Both Death and I are selfish, but neither of us will admit

We heal each other's loneliness when we want to submit

To the darkness eating us whole, we have learned to run to each other

Both sadists in our own ways, Death and I will never bore one another.
