WHEN I STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES (Ballade)

WHEN I STOP AND SMELL THE ROSES (Ballade)

From a dreamer's perspective...

I have this dream about a nice garden of roses
Varied colors and sizes,it's great for a day's shot
Stones and rock arrangements, in there the flower poses
As I walk along the way while wearing my designed hat
Going to the fine garden set where we sit and chat
Then I start counting flowers, those blooms that I have seen
Spend time with that beauty, to go away, I cannot
When I stop and smell the roses, I feel like a queen.

Then under the moonlight, I still look at the roses
Pretty like a bouquet, I walk with some I've got
While humming my favorite line, I pick for my choices
Then I pose smartly for a chosen flower shot
Oh, it's great to be there in my garden with a mat
My dear, you can sit there, we'll recall where we have been
It's always my dream, my good king, I like it a lot
When I stop and smell the roses, I feel like a queen.

When whispers of the wind come to our ears and noses
We then both smile and stand for it's time to take the slot
The chance to dance, the time to kiss and feel love's traces
The wind may be that cold but our bodies could be hot
Warmth by the love's embrace, to wake up, maybe it's not
I want to dream and dream once more, things I haven't seen
I know we can be like loving prince and princess, but
When I stop and smell the roses, I feel like a queen.

You get the red roses with a smile that makes a blot
In my heart, like a stain, love will never be a spleen
The joy will always be forever my dreamed spot
When I stop and smell the roses, I feel like a queen.

Ballade is a verse form typically consists of three eight-line stanzas, each with a consistent meter and a particular rhyme scheme. The last line in the stanza is a refrain. The stanzas are often followed by a four-line concluding stanza (an envoi) usually addressed to a prince. The rhyme scheme is therefore usually 'ababbcbC ababbcbC ababbcbC bcbC', where the capital 'C' is a refrain.

A beautiful poem. The senses take us back to good places and faces. The smell of roses can make us wish for old places we left behind. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thank you so much, Neil.
What a romantic scene you have created and the imagery you employed transported me there magically. Absolutely charming....enchanting even! Stopping to smell the roses, to feel the velvet of the petals and to share it with someone you love...heavy sigh...Dh, this is pure joy and beauty! Lydi**
