Holding Hands

Holding Hands

A Poem by Crowley

Holding hands is often the first and last thing we do with someone we love
Our true nature coveting the branching of root and leaf, nut and seed
When I held yours for the first time, doubt was cleared, your fingers were magic
The last time was filled with doubt until you could no longer hold, slipping, winking, finality

When I think of all the times I held your hand in between, I contemplate the meaning of love
And hope that there is someone holding your hand until you pierce the veil and start anew
Until then I vow to hold as many hands as I can in the hope of your return, I will know
And wonder where the time has gone and what you will be thinking when time loosens my grip

If I could be granted only one wish it would be that my good lady wife hold my hand and catch my last breath breathed.
A beautifully sad, contemplative write Cowley. Top writing

All good thanks, hope you had a good Christmas and 2019 is happy and healthy for you and your kin
This is a thought-full pause for me. I AM looking into your words and tying them to my vision... and realities ...memories. The first four lines - I have lived and remember and pause as necessary to renew.

But the last four "feel" more of an anger needing release rather than of any Love returning ...least to me.

Thank you for reading!!!! I am glad you liked it!!
There is beauty in the simplest of gestures, holding hands being one of them. Certainly one to keep in mind forever.
'when time loosens my grip' - I love the gentle acceptance and the thought provoking tone in this one.

Your voice in this poem speaks to my heart Crowley. Yes, the holding of hands at beginning and end is so loving and sacred. It is tribal, primal, human. It is universal. From first to last line, you impart a wisdom gained only from deep personal experience. Your words are a vow, a promise, an oath of deepest bond, extending beyond “the veil” of this life. They resonate with me as I feel these emotions for my beloved ones who have crossed over. Like you, I too hope that there is someone holding their hands. Thanks for this write.

Another wonderful romantic and thoughtful poem. I love this. It is cerebral, yet soft.

There is something so innocent and tender about holding hands. Such a loving thing to do. I love the sentiment expressed in your lines Crowley. Reminds me of holding my Dad's hand as a kid, and holding hands with my brother as he departed this world. Thank you for this.
