Fifteen Minutes

Fifteen Minutes

A Poem by Crowley
"

Helping yourself is the hard part

"

Elevated to temporary star status by random events unfolding

The girl stood and stared into the cosmic looking glass and trembled

There would be no going back, her life was changed forever

The prying eyes rapt for the humanity that cascaded from her presence

All she did was act human, all she did was love like a human being should

The hungry souls starved for something, that beacon of understanding

Maybe she would understand their suffering, their conditions of the heart

But she knew that she would not be able to help them, not all of them

She understood that help starts with understanding of self and a willingness

The fact that most would not lift a finger to help themselves was not lost

Then she would be the charlatan, she would be the fake messiah, "label me"

And the world would continue to suffer as it should, but she would still know love

Make sure it’s on a shelf you can reach without a ladder!!!

she will be the hopping queen soon enough:)
Given the abundance of shootings in this country, I'm often pondering the heroic acts that take place & wondering what would I do in a similar situation? Your poem takes this pondering to a new level, for me. You consider things that I had not considered, even tho I've given it much thought. That's the beauty of your writing for me . . . your mind goes into the most unexpected avenues, even for the most well-covered topics! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I find people like the “girl” fascinating and worth studying. What makes one act and another walk by? What makes one love? And, the randomness of fame is another, desired or not. Maybe fate, if one believes in such a thing, is the answer.

this reminds me of a singer who recently has become a sensation...she is such sweet, giving person but will all of her giving burn her out?
perhaps she is on that road...but her heart is gold...

sometimes our empathy can get us in trouble...when we make others' troubles our own...we take on too much...and our heart just dies a bit more each day...we lose our bright aura...and get lost ourselves.
