the in-between

hovering between asleep and awake

frustratingly i hover

between slumber and consciousness

my mind and eyes

buzzing, rushing

running full tilt

toward nothing

i deny it

its just

a belligerent bladder

an insatiable stomach

the urge to unfetter myself 

from unfinished work

but

reality lies awake with me

takes your place

and the safety

of delusion

slips away into the sleepless night
