Warrior Poet Zen 1-5

We fight back the black in ourselves by

writing out the darkness that we cannot contain within.

We spread the white by exquisitely writing out the

bright light that we cannot contain within.

I think the picture greatly complements this poem. The visual brings light to the importance of both the black and white through the use of the yin and yang. As far as the poem I agree, though I wonder if we actually spread a purified black when we write it rather than fighting it. A painful memory will always be sad. By writing about it, we drain away the pain while holding onto the memory itself and often help others do the same when they read it. Perhaps spreading our pain is as important as spreading our joy? I love your Warrior Poet Zen poems though, they always give me something to think about.

The dragons really complemented with the poem - I'm a fan of dragons and the theme of balance! I especially liked the connection made between "white" (the positive force) and "writing" through the internal rhyming in the third line.

I agree with with the logic of the poetry. Writing is release. I wonder did writing release Hemingway pain and sorrow? Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I love it. Such clear, untarnished truth for us poets, and probably others who don't know they are. Neither can be contained in these small bodies, but together, we can hold it, and something beyond us holds it all before we even write it. Well done.
