Apollo's Fire

Apollo's Fire

A Poem by holly
"

Inspired by a concert of works by Antonio Vivaldi. He was a red-headed priest who taught orphaned girls in Venice during the early 1700's. His orphans became renowned for the beauty of their playing. He's best known for his "Four Seasons".

"

Vivaldi,

your copper waves

spilled through chancel

carpeting

and dashed

against St. Peter's

pews. Notes splashed

up our legs, landed

with a drenching

thud in laps full

of afternoon programs

and dropped,

lightly, fine mist,

on quiet faces.

Did you love them,

the orphans that

you taught? Did

you reach into their

depths, dislodge

sleeping hermits,

antic pluckers

of the seasons' seas?

Or were they modestly

dismayed by

churning, rolling,

diving in your bars?

First of all, I love Antonio Vivaldi and his greatest work "The Four Seasons." It was like an emotional roller coaster ride throughout the whole entire piece and made me really appreciate the violin a lot for the very first time. This was very well-written and the imagery was nicely set placed along with the wording and the emotions along the way.

I feel that I have become one of the "quiet faces" in awe of the poem.

i also am a big fan of vivaldi. "winter" is such an amazing piece in and of itself.

with a drenching

thuds in laps full - one small change to "with drenching thuds"

Much praise goes to this. Love the imagery. A great piece for Vivaldi himself. Great work and wonderous questions.
