Dracula's Daughter

Dracula's Daughter

A Poem by holly
"

Written for "Sonneteers Lend Me Thy Tears" contest. I meant to write a sad love sonnet but wound up having a giggle with it. Sorry Fran!

Dracula’s Daughter

Another hope, another call to life
Betrays the calm I treasure above all,
And weaves connections to an awe filled strife:
Blood sought, removed and someone left in thrall.

Cold mind, that dead, refuses yet to die -
Dead heart, that stopped, returns to beat again -
Cedes but a passing thought to that last sigh
Dropped from two lips whose throat delights in pain.

Endless pursuit –what immortality!
Fearing dawn, I rise to greet the moon,
Eclipsing with my wings the Marian sea.
Force me, love, to leave your blood alone!

God, whichever god, give me the strength,

Grant mortal life to him I hold at length.

"Dropped from two lips whose throat delights in pain." i agree this line stands out. i love the idea of a throat that DELIGHTS in pain.

i think you handled the romantic/violent slants of the vampire really well. the sort of dead, cold, passion, that hopes when it cannot hope. ahhh it is fine drama is it not?

and again it all boils down to our mortality... to "what immortality!" indeed!

great write. enjoyed very much.

Fearing dawn, I rise to greet the moon,

A very well crafted sonnet~ taking us to the darkside

which is so very deeply expressed in poetic verse~ Love the line
