The Black Boy

The Black Boy

A Poem by honey

Hey Black boy
I was told you were in love with yourself
Boisterously adoring your melanin
Wondering how such perfection could resist envy

Beautiful black boy
I was told of your challenges through life
Defiantly succumbing to ephemeral relief
Feeling the sharp pain of intense dislike

Hey Black boy
I saw your skin bleed and turn dark red
Ignominiously concealing your atrocious scars
Camouflaging callosity in desperation for healing

Warrior Black boy
I was told you finally freed the tears from those cages
Shamelessly revealing your vulnerability
Letting those wounds heal with beautiful scars...

My granddaughter Is mixed race... I was sitting in the recovery room the next day holding her in my arms a tear rolling down my cheek in a moment of absolute joy and the phone rings and the voice on the other side was audible from where i was standing. The person asked her name and race and time of birth etc etc. All i could think at that moment was she was already categorized at 1 day old and what the f**k did race have to do with anything. My stepdaughter hung up the phone and I just said you should of just answered perfection.

I do not understand why you have been gazed upon 100 times but no one yet dare leave their mark upon your page... I give you one mark for each of my viewing predecessors.. and if I could, an extra one from me..... Neville
