Life

Life

A Poem by Heath Rumble
"

One of those poems I wrote in the park

"

Part 1-

Life and the body

Are conjoined twins

Fused at the brain.

Trapped by each other.

Feeding off one another

Each unable

To live without the other.

Each infinitely complex.

A yin and yang

Of god and beast.

They share the same blood;

The same limitations.

How unfair it is

That they need one another.

How grateful they are

To have each other.

Part 2:

I am standing in an elevator

And beside me

Stands a collection of cells.

A collection…

OF CELLS!

It moves.

They move!

The gelatinous

Fusions of proteins and water,

Of amino acids and enzymes,

Chemicals,

Fibers.

They are impossibly small

Yet their brigade is immense.

How is they so blissfully unaware

Of themselves.

Of their true self.

Even when they looks through a microscope,

And sees reflections

Light pouring through their own kind,

They cannot believe

Will not believe.

They think they’re different.

They think they’re whole.
