A Poem by hypochondrita
"

.

"

never excused

always to blame

my energy, misused

my efforts, to shame

time poorly spent

misguided choices

doubts are frequent

chaos rejoices

my god what am i doing

why am i taking time

to make it presentable

while i fluff it up for show

it disables me

I should make it disappear

not validate it into a writing identity

a shot of joy for a good life

that’s no trade for strife

the choice is clear

the pen is not mightier than the sword

if they’re not both on board.

At the ripe old age of almost 65, I look back at the DAYS I spent fluffing myself. Mom owned a beauty shop & I literally sat in her chair for DAYS (accumulated over years) waiting for the perm solution to curl my bone-straight hair all thru the big-hair 90's. Now nobody gives a crap how I look, I never wear a bra or undies or jewelry or makeup. What a colossal waste of time. Your last 2 lines are intriguing, tho. Not quite summing up what I had been thinking as I read your poem, but presenting an interesting point about the poetic journey. As much as we hate to fluff ourselves up (on the outside) to go out in public (supposedly) . . . when it comes to writing, we do need some buy-in from our readers. It's a balancing act to be true to what harkens us to write, while still trying to offer something the reader will be able to sink into for a bit (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Totally agree with the message.
The time that we spend (or rather waste) making aspects of our lives or parts of ourselves socially presentable can be utilized in better ways.
Your words echo. Love it!

Hello dear friend.
"I should make it disappear
not validate it into a writing identity
a shot of joy for a good life
that’s no trade for strife"
I liked the above lines and I wanted to know more. This poem danced on heavy thoughts. I believe we need to be close to something. Feel alive in something. I need to read and write. Keep me sane. Thank you for sharing the amazing poetry and your thoughts.
