Ouachita Trail

Ouachita Trail

A Poem by icaros13

When I woke this morning
My heart was aching
To taste her sweet valleys
And swallow her sky

This day to day living
Has my spirit breaking
I long to summit her beauty
And rest in her nights

Some days on the trail
I"ll think I made it to heaven
Others I'll be certain
I'm walking through Hell

Through the rain and the thunder
The pain and the wonder
At Pinnacle Mountain
I'll have great stories to tell

I'm going to go walk
The Ouachita Trail
Hike those two hundred twenty three
Miles all alone

Leave this cold world
That I want no part of
In the Ouachita Mountains
I'll finally be home

I sure wish I could go with you, but am too old and feeble. A great ode to a wonderful spot on the world. (I'm from just across the border)

Kansas, OK

For we have thought the larger thoughts And gone the shorter way. And we have danced to devil's tunes, Shivering home to pray; To serve one master in the night, Another in the day. ..I do love.. more..
