I Have Abandoned Myself

I Have Abandoned Myself

A Poem by idiotproof--1

I have abandoned myself

into darkness

so I could reach the light

I have forsaken what I was

into nothingness

so I could be something

I have screamed and bled and cried

trying to be something worth keeping

trying to be someone worth this love

I will make it

I will be everything I can and more

I will bring life to lifeless eyes

flight to broken wings

and love to someone

who thought she would never be loved

I will draw the beauty from every dark corner

I will be who I've always wanted to be

I worked hard

now here I am

This is a very powerful poem. You do an excellent job of expressing the intense emotion behind it through the contrasts of darkness and light and nothingness and something, the repetition throughout, and the vivid imagery. I especially love the lines "I will bring life to lifeless eyes / flight to broken wings / and love to someone / who thought she would never be loved" - the way in which that part is constructed really got to me emotionally. Very interesting exploration of the quest for identity, abandoning who we are in order to become who we want to be. Excellent work!

I liked the wisdom of the below lines.
"I have abandoned myself
into darkness
so I could reach the light
I have forsaken what I was
into nothingness
so I could be something"
I agree. We must lost everything to appreciate little. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
