I Was Broken

I Was Broken

A Poem by idiotproof--1

I was broken from the start

I just didn't know it

I was made from the pieces

that didn't fit into others

yet I've come so far

I've made these pieces fit

I fixed all the cracks and sharp edges

I can put myself together

every time I'm torn apart

I know how to make myself better

I'm not the broken person I used to be

only fragments remain

to remind me who I was

so I'll always know who I am

I like how this poem tells a story of transition and self-healing, going from being broken to being able to "make [one]self better". The contrast of "I just didn't know it" at the beginning and "so I'll always know who I am" at the end does an excellent job of highlighting this. I also like "only fragments remain / to remind me who I was" - it shows how, even though they have been healed, the speaker of this poem will still remember their brokenness and how it has shaped the person they are now. My favorite lines of all are "I can put myself together / every time I'm torn apart". They are sad, because they indicate that this person is "torn apart" often, but they also show resilience, independence, and strength. Nice work!

I liked the logic of the poem.
"only fragments remain
to remind me who I was
so I'll always know who I am"
Life teaches us many lessons. One is with stand the hard days and enjoy the good days. I believe we are took apart daily. A wise person hold on to the values. They hold strong to. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.
