You Let Me Be Myself

When being yourself is enough to gain total happiness

You let me be myself.

 

I can act silly

and try to make all the non-funny jokes I want

You'll only laugh with me

 

I can talk in different accents to make a point

You'll only join in to pretend argue with me

 

I can roll around on the ground

and sing off key on purpose to "Lean on me"

You'll only add in your own cracked attempt at a high note.

 

I can forget anything I want,

Whether it be math notes, spanish, english words,

and I know you won't make me feel like an idiot.

You'll make me feel smart by putting yourself down.

 

You let me be myself.

 

Don't have to feel nervous when you're around

You'll make things interesting.

 

Don't have to hide my gummy smile

You'll make me feel like it doesn't matter how wide my smile is

 

Don't have to be afraid to approach you

You'll make yourself approachable

 

Don't have to waste time wondering where we'll be going next

I just know that if I go with the flow

Things will fall into place.

With me just being me.

 

I am calm

I am happy

I always smile, when I'm around you cause,

I don't have to pretend to be someone else.           

            

                  You let me be myself.

So true. The poem captured the freedom in being oneself. Also showed hiw lucky one is to have people who are willing to accept us for who we are. Kudos to you.
