Death Becomes Her

Death Becomes Her

A Poem by KATHY SUE SILLS
"

A young lady whose sad and lost her way!

"

She walks the face of the earth

Full of despair and anguish

Her wretched soul seeking rest.

She peers through sadden eyes for happiness,

but she lost it long ago.

She prays for relief, but none ever comes.

She knows she doesn't have the courage

to take her own life, so she'll go on living in

this decomposing shell praying for the end.

Resting on her death bed, her breathing

grows ragged, but she's not afraid.

She welcomes the relief.

Family and friends gather with misty eyes

at the casket to say their goodbyes.

They gaze at the her body in awe.

She no longer looks sad, but radiant and peaceful

 They decided death becomes her!

I think the last three lines are the saddest I've ever read.

You want honesty so I am going to say this is really sad and lightly depressed me. A very good poem, Imagination, so please don't take my comment the wrong way. This is a touching poem with a meaningful message, however, I wish her life would have been grand. I felt an overwhelming sadness for her yet was glad she found peace, I just wished she would have known the happiness of living.

This is sad, but lots of people feel this way and some people just don't have the strength to go on, that is the sad part, this is a great peice

. ohhhh ... i don't think it takes courage to commit suicide ... why should it ? ... it's extreme sadness that makes people commit suicide ... the character etched here is really, really sad ... and i think it was really unkind of people to say "death becomes her" ... although sometimes i know that old people who are suffering from illness ... when they die ... some people say it's better they got relief from a painful existence ... but i don't know why ... i still feel bad ... personally, i'm just not comfortable with the idea of saying ... in any manner ... that it's good that someone died ... other than that, this is really well written ... you have a distinct gift for poetry ... and you're good at powerful expressions ...

In some cases such as illness or mental illness this can be the case. A jarring poem. I liked it!

some people think that death equals peace but that is not always the case, sometimes it is up to us to find the peace within ourselves in order to find the peace in our own lives. interesting concept though.

I think the poem is good, this goes without question. Now I can tell you what the poem makes me feel.

It is sad when someones only option at peace is death, and here she had so many who loved her but in life she seemed to be alone. I feel there are so many in this world who too are surrounded by love ones, or even love and yet they feel sad or disconnected from it and no one can help them. Then when they past they feel death becomes them. Your poem is touching and speaks to many people.

I like the time lapses in this poem.
This person took on a life of her own
and it made me want to help in some way.
You did a great job of getting your emotional
investment from your readers.
