the words i swallow

the words i swallow

A Poem by inkstainedsoul

their bitter acid rises
like the too familiar bile
as you ask me if i'm ok
while fingers claw my throat.
my muscles tense and quiver
as my lips tremble
desperate to unlock
to reveal my broken soul.
i force out an "i'm fine"
as blood runs down my wrist
an outlet for the words
i'm screaming in the silence.
i choke down the words
that could set me free
for they would certainly
drag you beneath the surface
of my poisonous sea

Direct and honest words in the poetry. I had to read again. You create thoughts to ponder with the strong description. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Bottling in emotions
i do that alot

And yes it is internal poison

Loved the intensity of this piece
Such strong images come to mind

Is protection really protection or just a delay of the inevitable? The bitterness that invades the soul festers until it finds a way to bubble up and out in a potent bile. The longer it festers the stronger the bile is. The trick though is getting it past the constricted throat. Nice write. Jan
