Crisis

Crisis

A Poem by MCS
"

We are figthing two pandemics; cononavirus and stupidity.

"

What a mess we’ve made

We are deep in crisis

I feel shame to be here

It’s a f*****g crisis

The global number of dead appalling

Divided levels of government jostling for power

Deeper into crisis we fall

A mutant virus gutting us

Numerous mutations

Increasing and fueling the crisis

Yet the skies are blue

The moon rises and sets

Sunrises and sunsets are perfect

But the crisis surges

Birds are singing

Rivers are flowing

Snow is falling

Some areas almost look normal

However we are in crisis

We bury our dead

Without the usual ceremonies

To honour their memories

Tally of dead grows minute by minute

In this crisis we are too busy to notice

That all has changed

That things will never again be normal

Perhaps our crisis is just beginning

Yes, I feel we are in a crisis. A pandemic which is killing so many. Nothing is normal. I wonder how long it will be before normality returns. However, life goes on. The sun rises, the sun sets. There is still beauty amid the horror and I do see a light at the end of a long dark tunnel. Vaccines are the way out, nothing else will work. A constant reminder of how we took things for granted. Hang in there. I feel your pain.

Couple days ago, I found the perfect photo of skeletal remains of two people in a heart-shaped embrace -- used pic to create a "Hello February" meme on FB . . . punchline: "bringing the USA to half million covid deaths" . . . and NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON liked it (typically I get likes on all my postings). This is a trend. Every time I post about covid, nobody likes & nobody comments (again, I usually get comments on all my postings). This is exactly what you're illustrating in your poem, so creatively -- it's the way people tune out . . . ignoring that we're still in a crisis here! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thank you Jacob, an end to this would be so welcomed about now. You be safe my friend.
I love how you did this: life goes on, no matter if in crisis or not, nature doesn't care about what goes on in human lives. Well written MCS, I enjoyed the read. :)
