This is a powerful piece of writing filled with emotion, truth, and wisdom. Silence is indeed everything you've expressed in this and even more. In the coming days I'm hoping to release a poem that was inspired by the great writer Elie Wiesel that spoke about silence in a different context. Your words and intro really resonated with me, Mary. Excellent work on this poem.

There is an old proverb that states silence is golden. I can see that, but to a relationship it can also be deadly.

MCS,
This sounds like a truly modern problem... no one says anything anymore, they just text it... And I have never liked what my generation called "plastic." Fake everything... fake religions, fake philosophies, fake food, fake clothing, fake happiness, fake friends, fake love... I'm glad I'm too old for it all, and wish better for this plastic generation.

We are falling behind; cursive writing is not taught anymore. Soon it will be up there with the hieroglyphs seen on the great pyramids of Gaza. Written language is now emojis and nonsensical abbreviations.
Thank you for taking the time to visit and share.

I think texting is really a double-edged sword for us. It has allowed for us a constant communication, which is awesome. But with this comes a heavy indulgence, and an overdose. In this intoxication I have observed all of the things you describe, both in myself and others. I think my generation has forgotten silence and all the things you can say without words.
there are comfortable silences between lovers, and then there are these silences, when the room has grown very cold. This one made me remember and shiver.

Awkward silences are the worst, a signal of, or a symptom of, a sad fading love affair.
And, yes, silences of warm unspoken understanding are moments to treasure.
...a poignant write, Mary.

I witnessed a young couple at the coffee a few days ago and watching their body language and their still lips was upsetting. As a result, these words came to mind. Thank you for your visit and thoughts.
There is a silence in this poem that can be felt. That silence is what is spoken between two people who no longer agree and the relationship has fractured. Lovely write
