Mistaken

Mistaken

A Poem by J.Keyes

I believe you have mistaken me for someone you once knew

Your mind tricks you into believing I’m something important to you

I wonder if you know how confused you are

I look upon your face and smile

You do not believe we’ve never had the pleasure of meeting

If we had, trust me, I’d know

You’re far too beautiful for one to forget

I would remember your smile

The way your eyes shine on even the darkest day

The way your lips move when you speak to me

The sheer perfection of your face

I would remember it all, but sadly, I don’t

I wish I could tell you that I am confused

But I know for a fact it’s you who’s mistaken

I wish that you knew

That I’m nobody
