unrequit'd love

unrequit'd love

A Poem by j.r.

you hang your head heavy and weep

     for someone, something not deserving.

ragg’d look upon you, tired tears

     streaming the creases of your weary skin,

i take my masculine hand,

and smooth the edges of your face,

brush the fallen locks from your eyes,

whisper love

     through tender breaths;

i breathe into your sobbing mouth.

fret not my love of that unrequit’d,

but instead only of the thing itself,

for it is a perennial gift

     that blooms with e’ery season new.

just know that i will ne’er waver,

and will always care more than you can spare--

the same for me as was for you.
