Shattered

Shattered

A Poem by Jack...
"

Broken...

Shattered

By Jack Ivey

Tiny slivers, scattered, lost

To what do we now owe this cost

Of love’s embrace no longer seen

Reflecting on the midnight dream

Days of past when we were new

On morning’s grass and crystal dew

The rising sun to fill our eyes

Amidst the warmth of summer skies

Though time hath proved the enemy

To clench thy love away from me

As if a thief in shadowed stance

Removed the essence of romance

Alas those days were all but clear

Upon the breath of the featured fear

To disappear before they start

In pieces of my shattered heart

It is impossible to unbreak the glass. The picture and the poem mirror this painful truth.

This is a lot more complex than the other poem I had read by you. I can't say I don't like it either. You have this way of rising action in your poetry without telling us anything, but rawly showing us with emotions. (I might even add that I'm a tad jealous of this defeat, because I often struggle with the rising and falling climaxes in my stories and/or poems.) I'm a firm believe that art is not art if it does not show any sign of emotion, and you have captured me well in this piece!

"As if a thief in shadowed stance
Removed the essence of romance"

This is where I really discovered what was going on. (That's if I comprehended it right. I tend to get completely different meanings out of poetry, when it was intended for something else.) I felt as if the narrator suffers the damage left of a cheating partner, as if they might have even predicted it in the beginning of the relationship, but they still endured it.

Any negative thoughts this round? None at all. At least none worth mentioning. I greatly enjoyed it, and I look forward to more! I get a lot of RRs sent to me for some reason, and it's difficult to keep up. Feel free to inbox me if you have anything you specifically want me to look at! Be sure to include any questions you might want me to answer as well.

So, until next time,
--Christoph Poe
