Bright painted postcards

Bright painted postcards

A Poem by Jack...
"

Waiting for that someone special to arrive...

"

Bright painted postcards

On the wings of adventure

and channel planned visions

In bonafide pockets

with envelopes streaming

When sidewalk dividers,

in colors of sunset

bring peace to the valley,

now penned in a post card

“…wish you were here”

And bricks line the mansion

with cats in the garden,

alongside the seashells

and beaches we’ll wander

I look to the sunshine

to see its reflection

upon your sweet features,

your beauty it holds me

“Vacation photographs cannot do justice”

In rhythm’d oasis

of sweet waters churning

and moments we’re seeking

in all we are wanting

With shadows behind us

as we go out walking

to love every minute

adventures are flying

“We find that our dreams lead us on our journey”

I follow the smiles,

that don’t belong to me

of hot seasoned concrete

and t-shirts emblazoned

With images captured,

yet still fashioned frowning,

until you arrive

and my heart swims the shoreline

“My vacation destination is your heart”

True butterfly wings

find the side streets amazing,

hibiscus and poppy

and fragrances swaying

When every sunrise

does find you here with me,

of bright painted post cards

and moments eternal

“We shall live…”

I like this one. It crosses the lines between the here and now. Not just for the longing of reality but also the longing for those that are gone. That, forever wishing you were here, stamped on a beautiful postcard, that can never quite capture what is truly seen with the clarity of the eye or felt with the heart. It's simply beautiful :)

Kristin, you thrill me with your words. Thank you for the smile this morning.
Such a rich blend of ideas and metaphors wrapped up in very cool descriptions Jack. I like how you break up the parts with dialogue/lines from a postcard. The sun is always shining in this one, which makes it very easy to like and to lose yourself in it. Great job.

Thanks so much Astro.
True butterfly wings
find the side streets amazing -- these were my favorite lines...love the imagery and the feeling these two little lines evoked--true love enjoys taking detours so that there is room to soar.

The poem on a whole...I loved that as well. Great concept with the idea of the "postcard" and the way that you weaved within the stanzas the off-set lines that one could imagine seeing on a postcard. "My vacation destination is your heart"--how fantastic!

Thank you so much Carol. It is good t be back.
I LOVE the first postcard text insertion "Wish you were here" and I understand continuing the theme of inserting them, but to me the following ones are just not as powerful. Strange to read this today as I stumbled across a bunch of old postcards from my Nana she gave me. Thanks as always for sharing.

Anytime. (:
This poem positively sings! Reading it aloud for the second time, i hear and feel a distinct rhythm and i do mean that rather than metre. So, the adored recipient not only receives loving words from you but a ballad perhaps accompanied by an expertly played guitar! ' True butterfly wings ~ find the side streets amazing,~ hibiscus and poppy ~ and fragrances swaying.. ' how easy to close eyes and see and feel those words!' If the 'arrival' is as wonderful as your poem, there should be champagne and fireworks!
