My pen pleads

My pen pleads

A Poem by Jack...
"

At a loss for words, but not at a loss for missing you

"

My pen pleads

Lonely nights offer moments of silence

and one dish suppers where candlelight seems a waste

Seated with pen in hand, I smooth the ruffles beneath

as if that will help the words flow

Upon closer inspection I find

heart shaped patterns on the dining room tablecloth

mimic the movements of my hand,

layered one atop another, calling on each to oblige

Crossing lines, intersecting at pre-destined points,

repeating in harmony with one another

as my thoughts gather in the tiny squares

of this colored graph paper staring at me, waiting

Moving in sync with butterfly curves on the corners

and scribbled etchings along borders,

fantasies of a mind in a dream state

swirl, touching each box of this formatted design

Folds neatly collect the shapes of spilled ink

seeping slowly through the cloth

like raindrops on a leaf following the veins

in an abstract yet confined flow

To the blurred eye sits nonsense,

a collection of nothing on a vast white sheet

dancing like uneven feet on a rounded floor

of no particular meaning or feature

Yet to me, my penned doodling calls loudly,

even in the darkness of lost words, these patterns,

as is everything found filling me is you…

and my pen pleads in heart shaped longings

As the subject contemplates and desires the company of a hankered and pined for love, pictures and designs appear in relevant detail of their feelings and even their pen converts these amorous thoughts into abstract doodles of that person!

A creative & imaginative prosody !

Thank you so much Tom.
Firstly I have a question, how do you sit on the dining table and see this "heart shaped patterns on the dining room tablecloth mimic the movements of my hand, layered one atop another, calling on each to oblige" I have never imagined that the patterns on the tablecloth would mimic the movements of your hands, the fact that your pen pleads...your imagery is just amazing and I so love reading from you. You inspire me a lot to say the least. Keep doing this. I LOVE YOUR WORK my friend. Good morning

You are, as always, very detailed in your poems, Jack. You use vivid imagery and great personifications. My favorite line is: and my pen pleads in heart shaped longings. It makes me long for love. ;)

Thank you so very much Blue for your always kind words.
The simple act of putting pen to paper...I am often tempted to replace my little leaf-less black on white tree with a picture of the actual paper on which I've written the poem I am posting. Perhaps next time...although I am certain I am the only one who can read my writing...which is probably why I don't get half the stuff on the shopping list I write for The Brit xD Meanwhile...this evoked all manner of feelings for me. I've sat at the table, dinner for one, with only my pen and paper as companion. For me, that's a dream date ;-) Just saying...

Well done.

Thanks so much Kimmer. As long as he comes home with the bacon and the alcohol, all should be good.

You got that right ;-) My pleasure, Jack...
Loneliness. The human need for companionship is one of the strongest drives we have. Nicely, poetically penned.

I may have mentioned this before but I am in awe and admiration of the way you take something so normal and just brush the poetic palette over it and make it amazing. This is one of those lines. It just takes the reader to that spot of "lonely"

This is so emotionally charged - yet understated, as well. I remember sitting like this a few times... It's trance like in a way... Just can't get out of that longing state that the mind spins. The last line is superb for your conclusion.
