No more icicles

No more icicles

A Poem by Jack...

No more icicles

Sitting on this roof,

seeing the colored lights in neighboring windows

finding frosted panes in abstract happiness,

as winter’s wind howls about my face

Speakers blare in cramping holiday tones,

(What’s so wonderful about it ~ this time of year?)

Shingles damp and slippery,

still I hold on for dear life

Fingers numb but clinging,

for without my seated sadness

on this peak above chimney ash

watching streams finding the edge

how else would those muddied

tear drop icicles form?

~

Then I hear it on shivering vibrations

A voice from ~ out there ~ somewhere

A shadow beneath a flickering street light

Footprints in circles about the square

Moving in my direction

My silhouette on white clouds shimmies

A little to the side, for a better view

Wings ~ it has ~ she has wings

I blink a frozen eyelash ~ she is sitting next to me

A warm, feathery quilted wing about my shoulders

Chilled cheeks burn as I smile

and my heart melts as she whispers to me  ~

 “No more icicles”

Now Jack....do you want to fall off that roof?? Must i yell up at you in my best annoying Lucy imitation...whaaaaaaaaaa JAAAAACCKKK!!!!!! ;-p

In all that holiday hustle and bustle its easy to forget that many people are lonely or alone during the holidays. That there maybe painful memories or loss associated with this time of year. You've expressed this with a very vivid picture.

It's beautiful. The imagery. The scene set before the reader truly puts one on that rooftop and in some ways this reminds me of my very favorite story from when I was little- The Little Match Girl, how she sat in the cold, lighting matches to see warm holiday scenes until her grandmother came to claim the frozen, dead, neglected child... I love the winter season and christmas time, but it's nice to look at it from a different angle, always...
great job!

What’s so wonderful about it ~ this time of year?

~ this end of season, a special season to many parts of the other country, just not here. Sometimes or I missed those, those people who would enjoy the holidays. The beautiful lights around in houses, the Christmas greetings from everyone, the joy of enjoyment with families and friends. All that, I missed very much. It’s depressing when you are far away, much more when the country you are in doesn’t celebrate the special holidays, but I have no hard feelings on that because I respect their cultural traditions. This piece made me think how to value your own happiness, your own worth as the angel will let you see the heart shine that you’ve put into the dark. Very nice piece my friend.

Ah...angel. I love stories about angels. I believe in them because I have an angel, too.

Glad there's no more icicles from that frozen eyelashes...

This time of year is so hard for so many... I read a darker story into this, based on your vivid images, Jack. Despair brings him to this roof, hoping to find peace by any means... and he is saved by an angel... This is where your words have brought me. Heart-tugging pictures, my friend.
