No more icicles

No more icicles

A Poem by Jack...

No more icicles

Sitting on this roof,

seeing the colored lights in neighboring windows

finding frosted panes in abstract happiness,

as winter’s wind howls about my face

Speakers blare in cramping holiday tones,

(What’s so wonderful about it ~ this time of year?)

Shingles damp and slippery,

still I hold on for dear life

Fingers numb but clinging,

for without my seated sadness

on this peak above chimney ash

watching streams finding the edge

how else would those muddied

tear drop icicles form?

~

Then I hear it on shivering vibrations

A voice from ~ out there ~ somewhere

A shadow beneath a flickering street light

Footprints in circles about the square

Moving in my direction

My silhouette on white clouds shimmies

A little to the side, for a better view

Wings ~ it has ~ she has wings

I blink a frozen eyelash ~ she is sitting next to me

A warm, feathery quilted wing about my shoulders

Chilled cheeks burn as I smile

and my heart melts as she whispers to me  ~

 “No more icicles”

Now Jack....do you want to fall off that roof?? Must i yell up at you in my best annoying Lucy imitation...whaaaaaaaaaa JAAAAACCKKK!!!!!! ;-p

In all that holiday hustle and bustle its easy to forget that many people are lonely or alone during the holidays. That there maybe painful memories or loss associated with this time of year. You've expressed this with a very vivid picture.

I hope they do Marie. Thank you so much.
Nicely said Jack...a lovely time of year but not for all...can be very depressing for many reasons.
Enjoyed as always...and hope your holidays will be enjoyable...Rose:)

Thank you sweet Rose and I hope you too have a wonderful holiday season.
You paint a picture of Dickensian Christmastime, a magical place but somehow we feel left out unless we have angel wings to comfort us. Lots of deep feeling and such an appropriate sentiment at this time of year Jack.

Thanks so very much John. I an thrilled you enjoyed this one.
Fantastic ending, the one bird that melts your ice core. The birds eye view I get from this poem does a lot for me, this icicle seems suspended from the rest of the world. An objective observer, who thinks there are none other like him, yet something not even remotely as rigid and cold as him (warm, feathery and quilted) comes along to melt its heart and send it pummeling to the ground.

Great work Jack!

Thanks so very much for visiting my page and leaving such kind words for me. I truly appreciate it.
I like the analogy of hanging to melt like those icicles for dear life seeing people happy and about their business but your heart is lonely and fading with her smile...I hope you have a good one and not a muddied one...:).....
