Reasons

Reasons

A Poem by Jansen Duncan
"

God gives us our love undeservedly. We aren't, and never will be, worthy of His love, yet He will forever give it to us.

"
You've forgiven me, and you shouldn't have.
You love me, and you simply shouldn't.
The abundance of passion in every word you speak
Expresses exactly what I don't deserve from you.
God, I have taken your grace,
and have crumpled it up
Like the note I have written too many times.
Repetitive.
Take away the pain,
take away the pain,
take away... take away... take away
I'll hurt you, when I get hurt.
When there's a storm,
I will refuse to use your umbrella
And I will use my own
I trust the dirt under my feet to support me
More than I trust you,
who never fails to answer me.
Your mercy warms my heart.
Burns.
When I ask from you, another task
My blood boils when you let my favor pass,
not unanswered, but with an answer I don't want.
"Something better is planned for you, my son."
I've built a house with no foundation.
It's put together without nails,
but not falling apart.
Your undeserved love is the unbreakable glue.
Undeserved.
Everything I have ever been given.
Mistakes
made everyday, but that's why you have risen.
You are still current. You're living.
I want to pay you back.
It's like being tied to a chair
As you're pushed into a canyon.
You can't attempt to flail your arms
and try to fly.
Can't even dream about it.
FATHER,
I AM TORN.
WHY ARE THERE ANY MUSCLES IN MY LEGS
WHEN I DON'T DESERVE TO STAND
WHY DO I EXIST DOWN HERE BEFORE YOU
AND IGNORE EVERYTHING YOU'VE EVER SAID.
I'll fall to my knees and plead guilty.
I'll offer my everything.
I've cried, I've tried, I tried to dream of flying
My bones are dry,
My insides... they died.
A new flower will bloom in place of the old one.
A new bird sings through the window of my heart
every morning.
Another wound heals into a scar.
every night.
You, you reach into this scar
and pull beauty out.
Reveal it to me.
One day, I'll view my scars with reason.
And thank God for them, like you.
Your scars are
the love behind 100,000,000,000  people
that have ever walked this planet.
Your scars are the love
behind the one who found you,
so that I could find her.
The love behind the innocence of my niece
whose smile brings peace.
You, who loves us undeservedly.
You've given me these scars
so that one day
I can see yours, Jesus.
I can't wait to see yours.

"If the sum of all our praises still fall shy,
We'll sing again 100 billion times."

I do not mean to be disrespectful, but I have to wonder if the God of the Christians really enjoys hearing them drone on about their unworthiness.
