The Skier

The Skier

A Poem by Kermit Gildersleeve

I saw a skier fall today,

Missed the landing of a jump,

He lay there,

How cold the snow must have been,

He lay as an infant,

He must have wept,

as the crowd watched,

his dreams of gold,

Lay spilt over the slope,

as the millions watch,

in disgust or laughter

As a snowboarder I can relate to this in a lot of ways. Whenever I fall, I feel like all of the skiers/snowboarders on the mountain are watching me and laughing at my momentary lack of coordination. When I first started, the frustration with this probably did bring me close to tears. I can't even imagine how much more pressure someone competing for the gold must feel.
