My Monster in the Night

My Monster in the Night

A Poem by jay-lyse

When I was hurt you laughed

Pointing and poking at my insecurities

When I was scared you left me there in the dark

Running away singing about monsters and goblins

When my heart ached

And I needed you the most

You unmercifully tortured me with cruel words

When I tried my best to run away

You followed me, chased me

Held me down and punished me

Cruelly yelling that you were all I had

When I struggled against your love

When I screamed because of the pain

You simply gagged me and laughed

When I finally gave up

Lost hope

Finally understanding that with you is all there really is

A vicious smile covered your face

You exclaim, “You’ll always be mine,

You’ll understand one day how much I love you”

The perception of submitting to the power of another who really doesn't have the right bestowed by any higher power to rule over anyone else is beyond any reasoning. It's not destiny. It's a choice. And it's giving up life over something that is less important that life itself. What an intense write you have on here, Jay. I had a great time reading. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks for the review!
Pain and control lead to a love on the edge. Can't force love. Someone will escape somehow. I like the story and the struggle in the poem. I like the complete poem. A perfect ending to a excellent poem.

Nah.. this was cold. I understand that is the trap. Most of us accept it out of love or in the name of it. But its usually architeched by someone who doesnt even have themselves...

Wow! Very eerie and visual. Helping another writer with their expression seems wrong, so I won't do that, but I think you have something beautifully scary here! Good write!
