Reality

Reality

A Poem by Joshua J. Certain

What you see.
Its not  what I see.
What you see is salvation, magic and a cure.
I see death, disease, famine and war.
You see progress through dollar signs.
I see the back of a welfare line
The difference between you and I
You are prosperity
I am poverty
You represent a lie and I represent the truth
I represent the majority
You represent the few
I speak for the people
And you only speak for you
And its sad to think we voted for you
When you promised hope
Yet I still see children in the streets
Streets with needles filled with dope
And drug dealers get food stamps
I tried to understand it but I just can’t
I am a European descended white male
Consensus says I am not suppose to fail
So where did I go wrong in my history?
Why can’t I get support for being a minority?
I work 40 hours a week on minimum wage
Yet I am still a part time slave
I thought our nation was about equality
Now the equal sign is becoming the enemy
Created equal…possibly
Born equal…not the reality

About
In a dark place I awoke. I believe it was around the age of twelve. I picked up a pen and wrote a poem tilted "Broken light". That was years ago and that poem is long gone. I started a whole mess of.. more..
