The Mona Lisa

The Mona Lisa

A Poem by Jennifer Lenhardt
"

Prompt from November/Write a Poem a Day: http://bit.ly/a0Icm8

"
It comes in layers,
and isn’t found in shallow waters
The deepening,
where a river can’t be an ocean
You have to count the cost,
to count the brushstrokes
One layer, as it builds upon the other
To have a deeper
more meaningful picture
And how long
to create the Mona Lisa?
The smirk is in the telling,
it’s in the eyes:
Greatness won’t be compromised

the reason that smile is such a mystery, it that it's the smile of a dear friend
