Thicket

Thicket

A Poem by Jennifer Lenhardt
"

Prayer

"
there is a delightful way out
of every thicket one finds themselves in

brambles growing
round
quickly
turning
this way
that way
which way,
out?

surrounded
pressing
thorns
flesh
leaving marks
caught
grabbing
shirt
pants

but did you ever watch the rabbit?
who runs through the thicket with ease
with ease?

darting
hopping
this way
that way
pausing
ears
nose
twitching
stopping
at the berries

nibbling
nibbling

delighted
happy
hiding
preening
sleepy
little carefree
bunny
who will show you
that the way out
so often
is only seen
when on
one's
knees

damn good write.
I have followed that rabbit through thorns many times....simple, humble, easygoing and alive....and thankful for those berries when you're lucky enough to happen by them.
the moment you raise up too high you can be torn to shreds.
beautiful use of the extended metaphor.
ripe with moral lessons.
powerful stuff.
big cheers!

Ohh my friend ,ha ha,now i know
I swear it did cross my mind but i was afraid to be wrong
from the beginning i read this..three options came to mind
one is that you will always find your way in the bushes or very meshy grounds
if you were simple and mind was easy and free like that of a rabbit-in a way
then it came to me you could also ,always find your way,if you had that
heightened senses like this little rabit..
but i always had the thought that if on your knees, and humbled
gave me the idea of prayers ,and i believe that..for then there
is always a side light and some inner feelings to tell you
where to go and you will never get lost
how so witty and thoughtful,i know in a maze like this
only one thing could help you see your way..on your knees
lovely write..

I would never find my way out because I would have never thought to get on my knees at rabbits level... While gorwing my parents never really read me the children's books like Alice in Wonderland and Sleeping beauty honestly I really don't even know the stories. I did enjoy this quick fast paced read I felt like the rabbit hopping along.
