A Blank

A Blank

A Poem by Joshua McNay
"

I had a bit of writers block that went away when I started writing this.

"

I’m trying to write but I’m drawing a blank

Out of all my poems where will this one rank

I want to write that much is true

But how do I do it without thinking of you

You inspire me, for better or worse

Sometimes it feels a bit like a curse

Writing came easy when it was about you

Trying to write other things, I don’t know what to do

The spark I feel when I write with you in mind

Other subjects, ideas, are just hard to find

I tried to right about a flower for example

At first the words, they were quite ample

And it rhymed, as all my poems do

It just wasn’t the same, it wasn’t about you

If you’d like, you can see that poem right here -------------->    I wanted to write about a flower

A poem inside a poem!? What is going on here? Using photosynthesis to get its power

I can’t stop myself, it’s all in my brain You are so small, but so beautiful

Rhymes to me seem to take away the pain Flowers are always so wonderful

Whether that pain is real or imagined Watching you sway as the wind blows

I write it all down and start to examine A freeing sensation, I will never know

What prompted me to write down these thoughts What do you think? Want to be tall?

What avenues did I previously exhaust? Or are you just at peace with it all?

All I know is when I write, I feel free Oh flower I wish you could speak

Even if at times my poems seem silly Help me find what I often seek

It’s an expression I choose to share To move and flow so carefree

Whether you like it or not, I do not care A peace with life, I’d love for me

I do this for me A flower so small and sweet

The more I write, the more I can see A treasure that sits at my feet

Thoughts are clearer, emotions more contained

In reality it helps me settle my brain

Goes and goes, always thinking

It lifts me up, no longer sinking

I feel much better when I write things down

A smile replaces my unpleasant frown

In the end I have you to thank

For my outlet, that helps fill in the blank.

I rather enjoyed this. the idea of having a poem inside of another poem is brilliant!

Wow this a result of writers block ? A whimsical diddy times two each could stand on its own. I like the transition for the final stanza.
Thanks for sharing

I thought this was clever. A poem in a poem...I don't think I could ever pull that off even if I wanted to. Very creative! Nice job!

Love that 4th wall breaking. It's a very unique poem, and is a very accurate representation of a poet's perspective. Good job!
