A Bird Now Gone

A Bird Now Gone

A Poem by Jeff Bresee

No bird remains to sing his song

so silence pounds the whole day long

in beat with memory of the day

I clapped to make him go away.

The fault, it clearly lies with me,

the bird was what the bird should be.

Now I live knowing I was wrong…

to want to silence any song.

I've had the opportunity of witnessing the activity of both robin and a mourning dove nesting. I was able to get some pretty amazing photography too when the eggs hatched! Their songs, or cooing, are actually a form of communication. Pretty cool, huh?

We learn too late. Some sounds are so beautiful. Thank you Jeff for sharing the amazing poetry.

This is beautifully composed and I very much enjoyed the message. That's because I adore bird song. Nothing finer in my opinion than waking up to it in the morning. Your short poem is delightful reading.
