The moon asks, don't leave me

The moon asks, don't leave me

A Poem by Tymothy L Smith
"

This image is the backdrop, the place of the piece:

"

The moon asks, don’t leave me

Why does your sweet soul seek for warmer climes

Why do you almost pull away as I seek you

Like shadows, the more I try to touch you the less you are there

Should I pull back and then make you seek me

Is that the instinct of the love you want

But I can not, not want you I say with my tears

How do I not, not want you when you are standing here

Defiant eyes telling me that I am not enough

‘you don’t understand’ you say

But I do, that is the yearning, that is the taste that I want again

‘but why won’t you love me, that’s all I want’, I offer

You don’t move, continue standing with the moon at your side

‘it’s just not that easy’ you say stoic

The shadows pulling your reflection down the corridor

But you are not shifting, not walking away

I try another tact

‘there is hope for us, isn’t there?’

You almost smile, almost

I raise my hand, ‘you do love me, you just don’t realise it’

I really want you to want me, but I fear I have overplayed my hand

‘you see the moon?’ you say

I stop, ‘what?’

‘it is the only thing that truly knows me’

You continue your defense, not changing tone or stance

‘you will cherish me eventually,’ I whimper holding my briefcase too tight

‘you have to my love.’

Your lips never tasted sweeter
'Good night,' is all you say
Don't leave me is all I want to say
