My First Love

My First Love

A Poem by Jessica Jean

If I am lost in the shadows

He is there

Leading with his warm hands

Around mine

Crying, there is the comfort

Of his arms

And the steady beat of his heart

To calm and sync mine

He is no one like Alexander

Nor Einstein

Never a Marlon Brando

Or a Robert Frost

He is more

Than I ever knew

I could ever have

More perfect

In his silly ways

I can stand up to the world

With him by my side

With the courage and confidence

He gives me to fight

And in advice

And just for a listen

There is no one brighter than he

He can make sense of anything

I see to be Greek

And though there are those

That would look at him

And laugh

I see everything of him

To be seductive

And heavenly

Those lips,

Those lips

Still,

For words

He could never match mine

Never know all the rhymes and words

I have in my store

Yet his voice

And the simple sweetness he whispers

Is better than any Frost I've heard

And it is all I need to hear

To know that he loves me

Author's Note

Jessica Jean
A poem acknowledging how your lover may never be as incredibly strong/confident as Alexander the Great, as smart as Einstein, as handsome as Marlon Brando, as poetic as Robert Frost, but he is just perfect the way he is and that it why you love him. Of course this poem is for my boyfriend, Tom.
