Ice Cream Melts If Left Out Of Its Natural Habitat Too Long

You’ve waited so long to escape
Spread your wings
Fly the longest flight you can take
Pack up your bags
Pull up those roots
Everything you’ve been taught
Everything you’ve told yourself
You’re definitely not

So now you’re on your own
No one to tell you you’re using the wrong tone
No one to nag you about your decisions
No one to stitch up the incisions

And after a few months on the street
You realize you can’t afford shoes
To put on your feet
It’s in these moments you realize
Everything you used to be

Loving
Intelligent
Respectful

Then you take a look at everything you’ve become

A liar
Thief
Scum

And you realize deserting everything you’d ever learned
Did not turn out to be as fun

But in these moments
You always have a choice
To do what you know is right
Or listen to your own voice
And in moments like this
You really learn who you are
You’ll find out where you’ll go
And how far
