Solar Plexus

Solar Plexus

A Poem by Jackin Praxis
"

A young man's struggle with regret. A son's journey toward fulfillment.

"

The son rises in the East,

And says farewell to the Rest.

No his heart wasn’t pieced,

Debris still fills his chest.

His soul roars like a beast,

As pain pierces his flesh.

Yet his life is but leased,

In this world he’s a guest.

He sees he’s done the least,

With the life he’s been blessed.

All the angst is released,

as he embarks on his quest.

So when he is deceased,

All his dreams are posessed.

Father frets in the East,

The Son sets for the West.

I like the way this one begins and ends with similar imagery. It seems a bookend arrangement for what is described in the interim, which comes across as a kind of mea culpa for what the speaker apparently thinks is a thus far wasted life. The last verse hints that some kind of family estrangement still exists, which the speaker wishes to put further behind him. Thus we don't get a picture of despair, but of a destiny still to be decided. Well done.
