4-Way Stop

4-Way Stop

A Poem by Audrey Bruckner

sleeping starless

in nights i can't recall

though some tell me they are real.

Dreaming darkly

in beds unknown

with relative strangers,

buried bare,

alone and cold

striving and stretching

for the surface,

I'm falling

hoping high, while sinking lower

dreaming of being someone new

terror driven predictions

ending up where she began

there's no place like home

for the fights and the bottles

the pain or the tears

this is where i stand

screaming until my throat burns

my voice cracks

no one hears

sitting alone on dew covered grass

invisible i wait

for someone who sees me

someone who hears me

someone who cares
