The Pain of Perfection

The Pain of Perfection

A Poem by J. K. Hannah
"

I came across this poem about perfectionism I wrote during a rough time. Even though I'm moving beyond these habits, it still resonates.

"
Never good enough
Never strong enough
Never organized enough
Never wealthy enough
Never relaxed
kind
good
Never satisfied
Never done
proved
approving
Always demanding
Always expecting- more
Always on
Always thinking
Always critical
Mistakes have no excuses
Imperfections have no place
You must strive
You must achieve
No space for weakness
No space for pain
- - - - - -
Anger. Unforgiving. Guilt. Anger. Pain. Unforgiving.
- - - - - -
Shame is your second name
Hide your flaws. Be perfect.
Afraid of your feelings
You control - always
You are not free
You are not human
