The Worst Sin

The Worst Sin

A Poem by Joshua Lobdell

The worst sin committed in my life

Breaking the promises I made my wife

Giving up on my vows sworn

Her trust in me forever torn

It was never a part of my plan

To fail so completely as a man

When I overreacted to our situation

That led us to that nasty confrontation

When my wife found about her

I don't know why, it’s all a blur

How this all got out of hand so fast

For a time it was a blast

But it led both of us to misery

Forgetting about our shared history

Running away to the arms of another

A feeling I was trying to rediscover

But it imploded everything we had built

Leaving me here alone with my guilt

A well stated expression of dark admissions. But is it the worst sin? Not learning from it may be worse, like not recognizing and repairing other dark admissions that pepper the soul. A good bit of writing though.
