Dusk

Dusk

A Poem by Jamie Lee

As the sun sets the body transforms

into a reckless creature stalking its prey

hunger building in the pit of its stomach

like a rogue searching for assassination

it craves the hysteria, the excitement

the turmoil it creates, prowling for its victim

Shadows dance and play games in the dark

manipulating its form to the imagination of

the young child who cries for his mother

swearing he sees the tricks of trade that

come so surely to ghosts of the wind

wailing the song of Dusk

The fog drifts in slinking between the willows

that stretch their lifeless limbs to meet

the musky earth swelling beneath them

and as the crawlers wiggle free from their

damp bassinets they search

for the creature that claims Dusk
