Street Life Daddy

Street Life Daddy

A Poem by John D Stankosky
"

Description.

"

Captivated by a hunger, I wonder
Is there any job out there for a guy like me?
Dominated by these fears and my tears
Is there any way for my baby's mouth to feed?

Have I suffered enough? You think life's tough?
No decent man lends me a hand.
Will we make it alright? Will we freeze tonight?
I gently squeeze my daughter's hand.

Why must it be cruel, this place?
But they say they pay minimum wage.
Who can survive at that pace?
The arrow points to E on the gauge.

It's hard to look into my baby girl's eyes
And see no happiness there.
What does she think when she sees her dad cry?
It's probably too much to bare.

I hope that I haven't at all let you down
I'll say in the back of my mind
I just need a job in this forsaken town
Before I commit a crime.

I'm almost there, I'm right on the edge.
My family needs to eat.
It's so not fair, so here's a true pledge.
I'll beat living on the street.

I'm not sure when, I'm not quite sure how.
I don't even know what to do.
But rest assured, there's no stopping now
'Cause daddy will always love you.
