A Place to Roam

A Place to Roam

A Poem by John T. Miller
"

Have you been outside lately?

"
Today, don't speak to me about your politics or religions.
I'd rather hear about our Home.
Have you been outside lately? Found a place to roam?

Today, don't speak to me about your great cities of technology.
I'd rather see what's grown.
Have you been outside lately? Found a place to roam?

Today, don't speak with me of your water fountains and small parks.
I'd rather see the sea's foam.
Have you been outside lately? Found a place to roam?

Maybe today just don't speak with me.
I'd rather be alone.
I must go outside. Find my place to roam.

Maybe tomorrow I can handle the truth of our dieing world.
But today, don't speak to me of our society.

Author's Note

John T. Miller
"To the body and mind which have been cramped by noxious work or company, nature is medicinal and restores their tone. The tradesman, the attorney comes out of the din and craft of the street, and sees the sky and the woods, and is a man again."

~Ralph Waldo Emerson
