The River

The River

A Poem by Jon Wesley
"

The past will always be the past and leaving the past behind can be scary. The uncertainty of the future sometimes makes you skeptical to take a leap forward but in the end, it's worth it.

"

I sat down by the river

Watching the stream pass me by

My memories are sweet and bitter

But they were the best times of my life

Now I start to wonder, what’s on the other side

Hearing loud roars of thunder, there’s no place hide

I look to the other side of the river, where the sun shines

The storm is quickly approaching, I don’t want to leave things behind

I can’t get the thought of the other side of the river off my mind

Hearing strikes of lightning, I look back with a sigh

There’s a storm on the east side of the river, the west side is so bright

Drenched in sky’s water, I decide I should give up the fight

I think about what’s ahead of me, and what will be left behind

It took thunder and lightning, to finally make me realize

I need to cross the river, and start the next chapter of my life.
