Our Earthly Love

Our Earthly Love

A Poem by Josh Matteo
"

Here is a poem for someone I will always hold dear in my heart. You know who you are.

"

In the dark of my room,

I observe you with glowing eyes

On an artificial canvas

Beholding the most magnificent paintings.

You lay there, nonchalant,

Forming hearts with your hands;

And although I know your hands don’t beat,

And although I know you are miles away,

The earth radiates with our conjoined heartbeats,

Moving tectonic plates,

Causing convection currents,

Pulsating the ground that separates us

In a low frequency that not many can hear,

Spinning the iron core

Making the world turn

And move around the infernal light,

Making seas rise and fall

Starting currents in the air

Carrying birds and fish to circle the globe

Supplying the fertile land with rich diversity

Spreading new life to volcanically raised continents,

Allowing our shared mother to take charge of nature.

I can feel all this through my veins

As I return your gestures with my own.

The wonderful imagery was what first caught my attention, secondly, your taste in vocabulary, your word choice was perfect for this poem, loved it. :)

You already know what I think about this. It's the most beautiful piece of writing I have ever enjoyed, and it just makes me tear up every time I think about it, let alone read it... It's absolutely masterful, an outstanding, incredibly emotional poem.
