Blindness

Blindness

A Poem by Josh Matteo
"

Here is a poem, not about anyone in particular, but just satire on what annoys me.

"

My lips touch yours and I shudder

Feeling a noxious gurgle in my gut,

Knowing that di have been cast wrong

And those controlling the fates have spun our tale wrong.

I know I should pull away,

So destiny free me

And lift me from this path.

I remain silent, a sharpened dagger probing my organs,

As we hold hands, strolling down a narrow walkway.

And my demon hands burn with hell fire

As you sweat out your holy waters

And I chug down your love,

So destiny free me

And lift me from this path.

It’s been a month and I grow ill

But you are lovesick yourself and don’t notice,

As my cardiac muscles writhe at the touch of your skin

And my ears shrivel at the sound of your voice,

But I keep touching and I keep listening,

So destiny free me

And lift me from this path.

We walk down the aisle under a shower of rice,

And your smile beams strong as mine turns black,

Rotting away my teeth as my gums grow soft

And the hair on the top of my head fall off.

Yet I keep walking on;

So destiny free me

And lift me from this path.

But deus ex machina does not exist,

And no invisible force grants me wings,

While I remain in this frozen cage

Submerged in a stagnant river

Surrounded with only the water to keep me company

But I still pray in vain:

Destiny free me

And lift me from this path.
