The Climb

The Climb

A Poem by Jessica J

Into and out of, we part on such sorrow
No person to come, not one to borrow
Each struggle we pass, each deliberate fall
Beats certain war drums, an age old call.

Inside a dark room, halfway light
Up each step we go, each forgone fight
We trudge through harmful, painful shock
Search relief from boulders, sharp stabbing rock.

Caverns and caves pull our air away
Valleys and forges we get stuck and stay
The mountain up high, looms ever far
The peak is nirvana, our ultimate star.

You climb up ahead and beckon me near
I fall back behind, worn down by the fear
I trudge right on past you, as you get bogged down
You look up to see, I wait with your crown.

We pull each with tethered, taught worn out strings
Our hearts on the end tied firmly round rings
How clear is this destiny, how clear is the road?
We only need strength to carry this load.
