Chapter 18

Chapter 18

A Chapter by Jemma Packman

Indigo enters her office. Yeardleigh is sat at her desk. Indigo says "You're here early."
Yeardleighleigh says "Yeah. I've got some time to make up. Boss keeps giving me personal days."
"Nice boss you have."
"Unless she's trying to get rid of me?"
"That's not the case. I understand the importance of a good friend. How did it go? You sort it out?"
"Yeah. I guess. Maybe. I have no idea. Moxie is complex and she won't tell me what I've done."
"I'm sure it'll come to you. Anything come for me?"
"On your desk. Grabowski left something for you. Said she'd be by later"
"Any idea why?"
"No and I didn't ask."
"Why not?"
"That woman is scary."
"She's not scary. Anything else?"
"Your afternoon is clear. Your one o' clock cancelled and an Iona has called six times this morning already."
"If she calls again, tell her I'll press harrassment charges."
"Remind me never to get on your bad side. What did she do?"
"Lied to me. Let's leave it at that."
"Ok. Hey, that footage Moxie gave you, why doesn't she want me to see it?"
"I'm sure it'll come to you. Relax and try not to think about it."
Indigo enters her office. "What the hell did I do?"

Indigo sat her desk. She picks up the large envelope, opens it and takes out the contents. Indigo looks at some papers then picks up her phone and dials. After a couple of rings the phone is answered. Through the phone, Summer says "It's too early, Indi."
Indigo says "Then why did you pick up?"
"Like I said, it's too early. What do you want?"
"Still not a morning person?"
"No."
"Why do you have sealed police files?"
"What would it take for you to get them unsealed?"
"A damn good reason."
"Which you don't have."
"I can get one if what's in there will help me find you."
"It won't. What's in them you should hear from me if and when I'm ready to tell you."
"I'll buy dinner, we can talk then."
"Nice try. Was there something else?"
"Why were you argueing with Iona the night before last?"
"She was warning me away."
"Why would she do that?"
"You'd have to ask her. I'm surprised she even told you she found me."
"She didn't. You were caught on camera."
"My best side, I hope? I've got to go. I've only got thirty six hours to prepare."
"Less if I find you first."
"Better go then. See you soon."
The line goes dead. "Maybe she's on the run? My God! Am I tracking down a criminal? Indigo, stop. You're freaking out. And talking to yourself. Weirdo."
